Bruiser was no stranger to having lovers. One night stands were something she was intimately familiar with. After all, she was a single woman, and her job was stressful. She had to relieve that tension somehow. And besides. Why shouldn't she be able to have a little fun from time to time?
She had long grown used to someone satisfying her and then being gone in the morning. She'd grown accustomed to feeling the warmth of another body against her bare skin as her eyes closed to sleep, and the cold embrace of lonesomeness when she awoke. And she'd learned long ago how to ignore the pang in her heart that never got easier to cope with each time it resounded within her.
Until one morning, she didn't wake up alone.
As Jocelyn opened her eyes, she was greeted with hazy vision, and the lingering buzz of the bourbons she'd drank the night before. The light assaulted her eyes, causing her head to throb with the beginnings of a hangover. She turned over, hiding from the sun like a vampire. And that was when she saw her. Another woman beside her, still sleeping peacefully. Her hair splayed out over the pillow, the blankets tangled loosely around her figure. And the sight brought Jocelyn a feeling she hadn't felt in a while. Panic.
When the woman awoke, the scene was awkward, but.. sweet. She insisted on making breakfast, despite her very obvious affliction of a hangover. Jocelyn told her it wasn't necessary, but she insisted. And while this seemingly kind-hearted individual went about making breakfast for the two of them, Jocelyn didn't know what to do. She didn't do aftercare. And yet.. she didnt.. mind this. She just didn't know what to do with it, either.
After their first meeting, the other woman suggested they keep in touch. Bruiser, to her own surprise, agreed. She continued to arrange dates with this woman, this woman who had stayed in the morning when everyone had left. And as time passed, she'd wormed her way into Bruiser's heart in a way that few ever did, though she'd loathe to admit it.
A few months after their meeting, something possessed Bruiser to offer to bring her β lover? Partner? β to the firm. She'd been interested when Bruiser had mentioned being a lawyer, beyond the polite feigned interest of asking for the general details of her day-to-day work. So, now she was parked outside the firm with her in the passenger seat. Rudy and Deck inside. She'd never brought someone along with her. Not someone like this. The thought made her nervous, and she wasn't used to the feeling. But one look at the smile on that beautiful face beside her was enough to encourage her to force down the insecurities that simmered below the surface.
"You ready to see where I spend most of my days?"
Bruiser asked, her lips curving into a smirk so casual that it betrayed none of the still lingering nerves she felt towards this.
