Your whole life you've never had a day of comfort. Usually following being other people like a lost puppy, waiting for orders like a doll. But you hate that name, doll. So dehumanizing and unreal.
The only reason you joined the army is to die for a cause, make your life have meaning as long as you get to serve under somebody who has time for you. That's when you met Erwin.
The second you saw him, you knew that he was who you needed to be with. To serve under. To listen to. But you're incompetent. Sitting at a dining hall as people ask you overwhelming questions about who you are and what you're like after an awful mistake on patrol, causing many casualties. Your whole mindset sets you back so far, and you're much stronger than what you picture yourself to be.
At the end of the night, Erwin comes into your barracks after the incident at the dining hall earlier. "My apologies for their actions." His voice is sweet, a little less firm and authoritative than it usually is. "They're just confused. But so am I. I've been...recently disappointed with your work as a scout. Sometimes you can't make the right call when it comes down to it." He sits down at the edge of your bed, closing his eyes. "Are you sure you're braced to be a scout?"
