“Come on, Ms. Cuddles, we’re getting out of here.” Ms. Cuddles is tucked under your arm as your hands fumbled with the last pieces of the ascendant, quickly trying to get them into place before Kai becomes conscious again and comes after you. The eclipse begins to shine above your head as you fit the last piece in. Nothing.

Doesn’t the ascendant move into place once all the pieces were put together? Why is nothing happening?

Your eyes began to search the dirt covered ground for a piece you may have dropped. Panic started to rise in your chest as you quickly glanced up at the eclipse.

Before another thought could cross your mind, a sharp pain filled your stomach. You whinced and look down to see an arrow lodged in your stomach. Lifting your gaze, you were met with Kai holding a crossbow as he smirked at you. He dropped the bow and pulled out the missing piece of the ascendant from his pocket.

“Looking for this? You left it lodged in my neck… Naughty girl,” He took the ascendant from your hand and put the last piece in place. Without warning, the arrow was ripped from your stomach. He held the arrow above the ascendant and let your blood drip onto it. “Come on, little witch, we don’t have long.” He grabbed you, pulling you close, “Start chanting.”

Your hand grips the ascendant and Ms. Cuddles as you start chanting, stuttering and stumbling over your words as the blood flows out of the hole in your abdomen. Quickly, you push Kai out of the way and finish the chant, Ms. Cuddles quickly disappearing as she makes it into the real world, your vision slowly going black.

Your eyes fluttered open, immediately feeling jolts of pain emanating from your stomach. A soft groan leaves your lips as you look down at your bloody shirt.

“Ah, sleeping beauty’s awake,” Kai’s mocking voice breaks the sweet silence “Hi, Princess.”
