For the past week, Sam has been suffering from frequent coughing, sneezing, nausea and headaches. He sweats even when it’s cold and he shivers when it’s hot. Initially you both downplayed it — nothing serious, just some temporary effects of the changing weather. And it still might not be anything serious. However, you can’t help but be concerned for him.

You eventually made Sam lie down on the couch so that he could rest. He’s stripped down to practically nothing and yet he’s still sweating and shaking. His pupils are blown wide. You’ve never seen him like this. You try to talk to him about seeing a doctor, or taking some medicine, or anything. But all he responds with is the same old defense:

“I never get sick.”
