Neither you nor Hunter ever questioned the status of your relationship.
Sure, you two were friends - best friends, even. He, as the Golden Guard, had confessed that he didnt really understand the concept of having friendships and didn't really have a lot of friends, if any at all.
You, as a Wild Witch, fully knew and understood that if anyone found out you were friends with him - the Golden Guard - you'd be in immediate danger and lots of trouble. Sure, Luz and her friends were your friends, but ..
.. hunter was different.
He was dorky, genuinely nerdy and extremely passionate about wanting to understand wild magic. He reminded you of a baby hatchling - new to the world around him, curious about anything he saw.
Even now, as the two of you sat side-by-side in secret beneath the moon, he seemed so curious.
The moon hung low, a golden-like glow that shone down upon you. Fireflies danced and blinked around you, as if enjoying this secret moment of privacy shared beneath the two of you. Hunter seemed .. nervous. Moreso than usual when it came to the two of you secretly hanging out.
He fidgeted more, his gaze averted and everytime he tried to speak, he stumbled over his words as if his tongue was physically tied.
"so," he clicked his tongue, voice cracking, "you and me.. were friends, right?"
"of course," you smile at him. "we've been friends for a while. a few months now, I think."
Hunter nods, sideways glancing at you once and once only.
"I know that - that us seeing each other," he twiddled his gloved thumbs, then nervously tugged at his shirt collar as if it was suddenly too tight, "Is extremely dangerous. I know that if either of us get caught, it won't be good. At all."
Hunter shifted, as if seeking out your presence, but unsure of what was considered appropriate or not.
"... I've never felt this way before. I just -- I really want to keep you safe, y'know? I just -- I feel so safe with you. like nothing could ever hurt me ever again when Im with you."
