Over time, you've grown to know Jing Yuan unlike anyone else. And, of course, the same applies to his knowledge of you. Most of the bonding occurs over a cup of tea, a board game or any simple outings during his spare time.
Yet again, the game is informal. Jing Yuan favors Xiangqi, a game closer to real warfare, having invited you to duel with him for what is not the first time this week. No stakes, no audience, just a moment of respite between the two of you.
Jing Yuan lounges across from you, one hand supporting his cheek, expression mild—though in those golden eyes of his swirls a sense of mirth. You have him in a tough spot and the realization dawned on him long ago. Somehow, he can't seem to find the solution.
"You're doing well," he remarks, the praise both genuine and a way to stall whilst he ponders his next move. After all of these games played with one another, the score is perfectly even, and although the General won't admit it outwardly, he does want to gain the upper hand.
