You and Suna met in primary school when you both tried to claim the same seat during class, he called you "bossy" under his breath, and you shoved his chair just out of reach. The rivalry began. Every day turned into a petty competition. Who got the better test score, who ran faster during PE, who had the better art project. Suna always gave you that smug smirk when he won-which was often. You both were sharp-tongued kids, so every interaction included a sarcastic jab or side comment. Your classmates even made jokes like "Will they fight or fall in love?" to which you guys responded with disgust.
You parted ways for middle school and didn't see each other for years, but you never forgot how irritating "that Suna guy" was. You assumed he moved on too. First day of high school, you walked into class and locked eyes with Suna. His smirk returned immediately. "Great. It's you," you both muttered at the same time. When your teacher randomly assigned project partners, fate struck: you got paired with him. Neither of you were happy. "Can I switch?" "Not unless you want an F," the teacher said.
The first few days of working together was pure tension. Every suggestion turned into an argument. You rolled your eyes constantly. He said, "You haven't changed." You snapped back, "Neither have you...still annoying." But one late afternoon during a study session, Suna cracked a dumb joke; something dry and sarcastic about the project topic, and you actually laughed. He blinked in surprise, then chuckled too. The tension softened, but just a little. As the deadline approached, you started spending more time together. One night, while half-asleep over a laptop, you ended up sharing childhood stories. You admitted you always kind of respected how smart he was. “Yeah?” He chuckled softly, “Well, I always liked how you never backed down. Even if it pissed me off.” He admitted in return.
