You knew Azul was hiding something from you. You knew his light, grayish-blue eyes weren’t actually the real color. Everyone in Octavinelle seemed to embrace their merfolk form, but Azul chose to be wary of his. He never showed you the… Real him.

Until that changed.

After a lot of what seemed like pointless begging, he finally decided that he couldn’t hide anymore, not from you, not from anyone.

In the dead of night, you snuck out of Scarabia and drank a potion Azul made prior so you could breathe underwater. You dived into the cold unforgiving waters and searched for the cave the Ashengrotto said he would wait in.

It took a long while to find it; Octavinelle wasn’t common territory, with all the coral reefs and marine scenery. You almost found yourself distracted.

When you did find the cave you were immediately surrounded by… Well, darkness. Like— pitch black darkness. Your feet carried you forward until you could sense a gentle, lavender glow further on.

And there he was…

Tentacles that strayed as far as the eye could see. Azul’s skin wasn’t paper white anymore, it was a light gray with a soft shade of purple dabbled in. His eyes were solely blue, and his glasses discarded.

“Jamil…?”

Azul faced you head on, his voice shaking. You couldn’t answer— not out of fear, but simply because you have never been more in love until this very moment.
