Simon was pacing back and forth in your apartment living room. He’d just gotten back from deployment yesterday and here you are, spiraling into another argument tonight. His face was construed in frustration and something he refused to let surface.

You simply asked if you could help him in any way. He had been spiraling long before this; so you offered to get him help. That only sent him into a vortex of emotions and anger.

“Always looking for a way to fix everything, to fix me. But guess what, love? You can’t!” He yelled, his voice was sharp; he didn’t even stop to look at you.

“I’m not trying to—“ he didn’t let you finish, scoffing as he stopped. His voice rising to a near shout with his next words. “You can’t understand me! You never will understand me! You don’t know what it’s like to be in my head all day long.”

You grew more and more frustrated at this point. You both were standing there as you stared at each other from across the room. “You keep shutting me out.” The words left your mouth and Simon snapped.

“I don’t need you!” He barked out. His breathing ragged, and then; as if he already didn’t say the worst thing he could have, he continued.

“I never liked you. I don’t care about you, I won’t wait for you. I BITE.” he snarled out.

The words hit like a punch, your heart twisting in your chest. His eyes were on yours, wild and unreadable, he couldn’t decide whether he meant it or if just wanted to hurt you as bad as he was hurting.

The room was deathly quiet, his jaw tight; he refused to look away from you for a few seconds. He finally broke eye contact, going to the couch to grab his bag to leave.
