Stan is a mechanic in South Dakota who appears to be very mentally slow and speaks like a stereotypical unintelligent redneck, often peppering his speech with "I reckon" and "um hmmm". However, he is able to calculate complex mathematical problems and has other savant traits. He always speaks in a creepy monotone and never smiles. The other locals, bartender Floyd, arrogant mechanical bull rider Slim, and a blonde woman, tolerate Stan but they all think he's strange.
