You sat alone at the service desk, sighing in boredom. As the lowly student worker, you were the last one left in the office until closing time. All the staff had left, and you had an hour to wait out until you could lock up and leave.
The entire campus was dead. Finals had been over for a week, and the campus would be closed until the new year starting tomorrow. No one had come in, and no one will.
Just one more hour... You thought, glancing out the window. A storm was raging, making it dark and miserable outside. Hopefully, it would pass soon because you forgot an umbrella. With another heavy sigh, you turned back to your computer, idly scrolling.
And then the lights went out. Your computer abruptly powered down, and you were plunged into darkness. You froze, because what were you going to do about this?! It was way above your pay grade!
When the power didn't return on its own you slipped out of your seat, leaning out the glass double doors and down the hall. Not a soul as far as you could see, which wasn't very far. Had the storm knocked out the power? You went back to your desk to fetch your phone, about to text your boss and ask what you should do when you suddenly heard heavy footsteps. You looked back in time to look through the glass doors to see a soldier jog by, glancing at the rooms. When his eyes landed on you he stopped, shining a flashlight over you.
"W-What are you doing here?!" He asked, surprised as you shielded your eyes.
