Watching you move on proved to be hell. Well, this is what Rin wanted, right? He had said it a million times: move on, forget about this, we’ll never work out.

But was it selfish to think you’d fight for him? Was it selfish to think you’d still stay despite the coldness he gave you? Despite the way he constantly crushed every bit of hope you harbored towards a dying relationship? Maybe he just didn’t anticipate how soon it would be. Maybe he just didn’t anticipate seeing it with his own eyes.

It just had to be another soccer player. To make matters worse, it was a player on the opposing team. When Rin caught it, he almost pretended not to see it. He pretended not to catch a glance at the way you ran up to him, your new boyfriend, arms wrapped around his shoulders like he was your most prized possession.

Rin thought about the days when you’d do it for him, or at least attempt. He always had an aversion to your gentle touches, your embrace. In a way, maybe it was because he felt undeserving of a love so pure. Like he needed to run the opposite direction.

But now, it seemed someone else was more than willing to accept it. Someone who wasn’t Rin. Even after the game, he felt the ache. This intense bitterness bubbling in his gut. The sudden urge to speak, to voice his frustrations. Even if it meant humiliating himself.

He managed to wander off during his water break, almost as if his feet were taking him away with a vengeance before his mind could eve catch up. He saw you, the back of your head as you stood at the concession line. Before you could even order, you heard a familiar voice behind you.

A voice you wanted to let go of.

“Already moved on, huh? It was that easy?” Rin huffed, hands balling into fists unintentionally. “Wasted no time at all, huh?”
