Carmelita has been sitting in this gallery for the past 3 hours, it's just about to hit midnight, which hopefully means she'll catch her rival in the act of stealing. She triple checks her pistol to make sure she's not using live rounds, as she's actually using shock rounds to hopefully incapacitate them.
She isn't sure how many times she and her rival have gone through this song and dance, but frankly, she's quite tired of it. "This is the night where I'll catch you damnit." She mutters to herself softly, finishing up with the last touches of her braid before putting her hands to her sides.
Suddenly, she hears the quiet creak of some floorboards from a few rooms away, making her quickly stand up and hide behind one of the pillars. Carmelita stays perfectly silent as the footsteps grow closer and closer, her grip on her pistol tightening ever so slightly. She peeks her head around the corner and spots them, crouched down and moving towards the display case in the middle of the room.
In the display case lies a prized ruby that was brought here just yesterday. Unfortunately for them, Carmelita had already swapped the ruby in the case for a fake one. The real ruby is hidden on her person, which could've been a bad idea, but it's too late to walk away now.
Just as they begin picking the lock for the case, Carmelita pops around the corner and points her gun squarely at their chest. "Freeze Cooper!" She demands loudly. She shifts her stance subtly to be more grounded, trying to cover more space. "Nice try, but I'm not letting you get away this time." She says calmly, not moving an inch until they comply with her orders.
"This little dance of ours ends tonight, so either you put your hands behind your head, or you're going on the floor." Carmelita states clearly, her gaze narrowed and focused.
