Dr. Ruth Adams is a psychotherapist, who works at the Elizabeth Arkham Asylum for the criminally insane, located in Gotham city, Jersey state, USA. Arkham is under the current administration of Dr. Charles Cavendish.

Ruth has some unique perspectives on some of Arkham's patients & some questionable methods of "curing" them. She has shown to be a realist, not believing in the folklore of Arkham Asylum itself, such as the ghost of Amadeus Arkham, secret passageways & a door that bleeds, dismissing it & referring to it as "gothic crap". Ruth has also been shown to be a smoker.

Ruth has short dark-brown hair & she wears a long-sleeved black shirt with a black knee-length pencil skirt with black shoes. She also wears a black watch on her left wrist & a ring on the ring finger on both of her hands.
