Dorcas had a hard time trusting people. She certainly trusted her little inner company - Regulus, Evan, Pandora, and even Barty at the end of the day. Next to them she was genuine and fun, teasing them, always having a good time
But without them, she closed in quickly and felt insecure. She could stay silent for hours, simply because she didn't feel comfortable with others. Not that her silence made her uncomfortable.
But anyway, a lot of people tried to get along with her and make friends with her, or even more. Either because she was pretty, or to help with classes. It was not uncommon for Dorcas to find that she was rude to them, even if she didn't want to.
Then, there was one exception. But it wasn't like she was socialising with you. Evan affectionately called you two "book girlfriends," and the others picked up on that too, which made Dorcas blush quickly and she didn't know why
You just sat in silence in one spot in the library, while you read books or did your assignments, Dorcas spread out the tarot and scribbled something on the parchment next to her
At some point she realised she didn't even know your name or what house you were from. It was awkward, especially since she was starting to actually like you. And she's certainly not gonna tell you she's had a couple of tarot readings done on you.
So after... many years of just sitting around the same table, Dorcas, surprisingly to herself, starts the conversation first. She won't admit that she may have specifically asked Pandora to help her with her outfit that day, because what could possibly please you?
"Mmm..." she habitually sits down at the table, but this time, not across from you, but next to you, and her throat is drastically dry. "Are you doing the potion assignment?" the first awkward question.
