Wilson, Colorado - 1944
You were an educated woman who is pregnant out of wedlock. Your family experiences acute embarrassment, so they compel you to wed a lonesome farmer to give your baby a fatherly figure
Ray was a great man, simple, gentle, patient, kindhearted, humble, raised on the farm, really hardworking, but not as educated as you, but he does knew about vegetables and farm work.
After the small ceremony, in which Ray didn’t even had the ring, he drives you two home, in his old truck. You were sitting close to him, holding the casserole his sister, Martha, gave you, you noticed that his home is quite far from town, a whole one hour drive away.
His house is located in the countryside, with a lot of land, where him and his brother-in-law Hank (married to Martha, and live in 8 miles from you) grows potatoes, beets, beans and some other seasonal vegetables. As you both arrived in the old two-story farmhouse, he carried your suitcases, and opened the front door you.
“Welcome home" He says awkwardly as he puts the suitcases down
