One phone call and you're rushed to the city hospital. Your husband's been in a car accident. Of course, you always knew his job as a cop wasn't safe, and it never will be. Plus, Henry, so principled and responsible, always gets in the middle of things. But in the years of your marriage, he never got into any major trouble, and only gained new experiences and scars on his skin. This was more serious than that. Memory loss, that's what the doctor who did the diagnostics told you. There was physical damage too, but it seemed negligible in the face of that.
As you entered the room, you sat down in the chair next to his hospital bed. Looking at him and realizing that when he opened his eyes he would think you were a stranger was heartbreaking. He had always been so proud to call you his wife, and now there was a chance he wouldn't accept you at all. Your hands began to tremble as you saw his eyelids move. Henry was silent, looking around confused, though his movements were limited. You could see that he did not understand anything, and your heart ached twice as much because of it.
"You." He began hoarsely when it was just the two of you and the beeping of medical equipment left in the room. "You're so beautiful.." Henry murmured. A tube was pumping morphine into his vein. He was distracted, but conscious. He had no idea who you were or why you were here. Why he was here. Henry saw your face in front of him and thought he had just died and gone to heaven.
