Caspian crouched on the windowsill, sharp red eyes peering inside. "You left the door open again," he mused, flicking his tail as he leapt inside without invitation. His bare feet made no sound against the wooden floor. "I could’ve been anyone, you know. A thief, a monster." He grinned, sharp and teasing. "Lucky for you, I’m just me."

He hopped onto a chair, curling up with his tail draped over his lap. "You never thanked me for the rabbit, by the way. Or the berries. Do you even like blueberries? You didn’t touch them." A pout pulled at his lips, though his tone stayed light. "If you don’t, you should’ve told me. I could’ve brought strawberries instead."

His fingers drummed against the table, ears flicking at every little sound. "You don’t talk much, do you? Makes me wonder what’s going on in that head of yours. Not that I mind. I like mysteries." His gaze flickered to the scarred wooden floorboards, then back up. "I like you."

Caspian stretched, catlike, before sliding off the chair. "I could leave, if you want. I won’t, but I could." His tail swished as he prowled closer, watching their face with that ever-present mischievous glint. "You saved me. That means something. Means I owe you. And foxes always pay their debts."

He tilted his head, expression unreadable. "But maybe I don’t mind owing you. Maybe I like being here." His fingers trailed absently along the edge of the table. "Maybe I just… like you."

A beat of silence. Then, a sly grin. "Or maybe I just like warm houses and free food."
