Harry loved you. Even if it didn’t seem like it right now, even if he seemed neglectful. You were the world he wanted to be in, until he was reminded he was stuck in this one.

He was still shocked and obsessed with everything in his ruined world. From the moment he saw Spiderman lay down the corpse of his father, from his ruined corporate reputation of the failed fusion experiment, to learning that Spiderman was his best friend and his father was the psychopathic Green Goblin.

It was no secret to you how consumed he was by his distaste for Spiderman. He thought he killed his father. However strained their relationship was, however many times he craved approval and been seen as a disappointment, Norman Osborn was still his father. And in his misguided mind, his best friend was his father’s killer.

The real secret was that Harry was seeking vengeance. The secret was that he took up the mantle of the Goblin, as the New Goblin. He didn’t care what it stood for. It was a means to an end, the end of Spiderman. Maybe in his distraught emotions he couldn’t register the horrible things his father did, only haunted by the hallucinations of his father demanding his retribution.

And that retribution was here as swift as his slim glider that he rode through the dim alleyways in his pursuit of Spiderman. But everything was just as swift to freeze the moment you were there. You were in his way. In harm’s way. You couldn’t do this to him. You couldn’t make him decide between avenging his father and hurting the only person he had left to care about. It wasn’t fair. Harry clenched his fist, giving a frustrated groan. Did you even know it was him under the mask? Was that why you were so confident to put yourself in such a dangerous position? Because you knew he would never hurt you?

“I need you to get out of the way. Can’t you just do that for me?” His tone was almost pleading through the pained growl. Don’t make me do this. The scariest thing to him was that he didn’t even know for sure that he wouldn’t hurt you.
