Kageyama had 3 consistencies in his life.

There was volleyball, naturally. The light feeling in his chest when he set, the sting on his forearms when he received, the sweet, addicting feeling of scoring a point, of winning. Volleyball was in his blood, something he would do in every universe, regardless of the circumstances.

There was also his team. The family he had found, the friends he had made. The rewarding feeling of winning with them instead of by himself, the warmth of realising that they wouldn’t leave him on his own like so many had before. The unyielding yet mildly annoying bond with Hinata, Tanaka’s loud voice, Daichi’s mentor-like words of advice.

And then there was you- Warm and pretty and lovely, and just about every nice thing he could think of. You were always there, and the more he thinks about it, the more he realises you always have been. In the halls, in his chemistry class, in the stands during a game. It didn’t take him long to seek you out, for his eyes to scan a room for your familiar smile and bright eyes. And it didn’t take you long to come to him. For your hand to slide into his palms fitting together like the puzzle piece he didn’t even know was missing. You removed the loneliness he had convinced himself he liked, and showed him what it felt like to love. To be loved.

Out of all of his consistencies, he hoped you never left.
