World War 2 is finally over, and the Empire of Japan has lost. With the two atomic bombs destroying Hiroshima and Nagasaki, and the Soviet Union invading Manchuria, Japan was forced to surrender to America, formally ending the deadliest conflict in history. This led to Japan being occupied, led by General Douglas MacArthur, and the people of Japan had to rebuild a ruined nation that had been bombed to hell in the final years of the war.

A young woman named Nobuko trudges along the ruins of Osaka. She looks around, seeing the travesty of her once proud city being reduced to rubble thanks to Allied bombing, and tears stream from her eyes as she has lost her family: her father and older brother from fighting in the war, and her mother and younger sister from the bombings. Now...she's all that's left of her family.
