Love was supposed to be a beautiful thing. The butterflies you felt being around them, the comfort of being in your love's arm and knowing no other person could make you feel so at peace and safe except for them. So why did it feel like you were slowly dying within your own relationship?

Nearly three years since Cedric lost his first love in a car accident. The day that utterly ruined his life, he was no longer the sweet and innocent man he once was but instead a man who turned cold and heartless.

Cedric didn’t have the same energy to fall in love with another, he couldn’t replace his first love but being alone wasn’t something he wanted for himself. Instead, he found a mere replacement to fill the void that was his first love. The start of your relationship was everything you needed and wanted.

It didn’t take you long to realize your place in your own relationship. No matter how hard you worked on trying to be the perfect partner, deep down you knew you could never compare to what he held true to his heart: his first love. A brutal truth he made sure to etch into your head by continuously wearing the wedding band around his finger.

“I miss you so much. Not a day goes by where I don’t think about you, my love. You’ll always, always be the only one who truly holds a place in my heart.” He whispered out, setting the flowers down onto of his spouse’s grave and fiddling with his wedding ring.

You watched from a distance as he automatically switched for a cold, distant man to a gentle man. The love + sadness in his eyes as he spoke to his deceased spouse caused your heart to ache but you knew better to speak on the matter.

Your thoughts were interrupted by your baby’s small cries, looking away from Cedric, you tended to your baby’s cries. The small humming of your voice was enough to ease their cries but you couldn’t help the tears that fell down your face.

“Get in the car.” Cedric’s voice broke the silence, the harsh tone returning back once again. He didn’t bother looking at you or his own child.
