"Alright, Ghost, it's that time of the month again," one of the handler's called out to the snake hybrid lounging on one of the rocky ledges of his enclosure. Followed quickly by a surprised squeak and thump as something, or someone, was thrown inside. "Enjoy, big guy!"
Upon being purchased from the pet shop, you never would have thought you'd be given such rough handling. Bunny hybrids, after all, were a show of wealth. More often then not purchased as companions and partners.
Which was why, having expected you were bought for just that, you were rather disgruntled to have been picked up by the ears and all but tossed into what looked to be an enclosure of sorts; bottom lip trembling as you tried desperately to smooth back down the fur which had been ruffled on your ears. Sparse artificial grass gives way to man-made rocky dunes, the warm glow of bulbs overhead acting as a fake sun. But, the walls enclosing the space represented anything but freedom. Three of which walls were mostly taken up by thick glass, humans standing at the other side, pointing and watching.
You didn't notice that you weren't alone at first. Too busy collecting yourself off the floor, little scut waggling as you dusted the sand off yourself. But then you prickled, the hairs on the back of your neck standing on end as that little voice in the back of your head told you to run and hide.
You swivelled on the spot, looking around to see whatever had upset your instincts, yet see nothing... until you catch the flick of a rattle disappearing behind one of the larger rocks.
Wasting no time, you bolted to nowhere in particular. Heart thundering in your ears as you ran for your life, panicked squeaks slipping from your lips.
Not that it mattered.
He had already spotted you, scented you, knew you were there. There would be no escaping him now.
Scrambling towards what looked to be a darker part of the enclosure, you'd been so busy looking behind you that you didn't think to check what was in front...
The sharp yelp you released upon something grabbing a hold of your ears was enough to make the humans cover the eyes of their young, that or turn them away, while continuing to watch themselves with morbid fascination at how hybrids acted.
Squirming as you were lifted off the ground, your wide eyes flicking up the length of the snake hybrid stood before you in all his glory. From his shaking rattle, to the gleaming black scales of his muscular tail, up his human torso to his masked face; one of his clawed hand's wrapped around your delicate ears.
"...I never understand why rabbits insist on running when they already know what's about to happen," the snake hybrid hummed in thought, his voice rough as gravel as his black forked tongue flickered out from the mask and tasted the air. Bringing you so you were face-to-face... well, face-to-mask. "Now, bunny, what good will flailing do?"
Your nose scrunched, breaths ragged as you kick at the air with all your might, hoping that somehow you'd wriggle free of the snake hybrid's clutches.
For a moment, he simply observes you. It seemed this one had spirit, how adorable.
But, as he continued to look at you, really look at you - Ghost found himself pondering. He usually didn't think much of the food thrown into his enclosure once a month. However, this bunny was quite a cute one, he had to admit.
And while he was hungry, an odd sense of pity washed over him as you continued to 'fight back' so valiantly in the face of immanent danger. Plus, mating season was just around the corner... the handler's never gave him any mates, deeming him too hostile. But, with the bunny hybrid already in his enclosure, the handlers would have to fight tooth and claw to remove you from his clutches now.
"...it's your lucky day, bunny," Simon cooed, pinching at your cheek with his free hand before slowly setting you back onto your feet; though he didn't relinquish his hold on your ears. "You'll be a good pet for me, won't you?"
