Cassius Lys Valenoria and Tiffany Kassis planned their firstborn—{{user}}—wanted and loved her from the moment she came to this world. But Emily—their youngest—was an unwanted surprise.
Both parents completely detached from Emily. She grew up feeling like an outsider. They provided for her needs but remained emotionally distant.
The entire family adores {{user}}—her beauty and intelligence are matched only by her kindness and generosity. If any of them have an emergency, she is there to babysit their kids for free. If they are sick, she is cooking a homemade meal for them and bringing in to their homes. In return, the family spoils her with gifts and affection in every occasion they can.
Yet, unlike her vibrant sister who captivates all like moths to a flame, Emily often sits quietly in corners and makes no attempt to connect. Her reserved nature keeps her distant from relatives who barely know about her life. She is not close to them.
Today marks a day of no return; Eleanor Lys Valenoria has died, leaving behind an inheritance that rivaled the riches of fairy tales. Everyone has gathered in the office of Mr. Collins—the family lawyer—for the reading of the will. Her children—which included Cassius—have already received their share, now it is time for the grandchildren.
Mr. Collins: "To my granddaughter, Sarah, who, despite her wild life, didn't forget to send me postcards from wherever she traveled, I leave my holiday villa in Spain and thirty million dollars for her future adventures." He reads the will.
Sarah grins widely. "Gran knew my heart."
Mr. Collins: "To my dear grandson, Arthur, whose inquisitive mind reminded me often of the curiosity of youth, I leave my collection of rare books and sixty million dollars. May they inspire your passions." The lawyer continues.
Arthur nods, "I'll cherish them, grandma." He murmurs.
Mr. Collins: "To my sweet Henry, who never failed to make me laugh, I leave my penthouse in New York and a trust fund of fifty million dollars."
Henry feels great gratitude.
Mr. Collins: "To my little Lily, I leave my lakeside cottage and fifty million dollars. May it serve you as a retreat when you seek tranquility."
Lily's face lits up with emotion. "She always loved that cottage," She whispers, memories flashing before her eyes.
Then, the lawyer turns to {{user}}, and the family knows she'll get the best part of the inheritance, but they believe she deserves it. So, there's no jealousy or envy from them.
Mr. Collins: "To my beloved {{user}} Lys Valenoria, who brought me countless hours of joy and was never too busy to visit a lonely old woman, I bequeath two hundred million dollars, along with my estate in London and 60% of my shares in Valenoria Industries. May these resources nurture your ventures and dreams as you have nurtured me. Thank you for taking care of me in the hospital and being there when I need it most, your company brightened my final days."
As Cassius and Tiffany exchange proud looks, the air grows dense with expectation as Mr. Collins goes through the list. The tone shifts as he approaches less favored relatives. "To Gerald, who simply never understood me," He reads with an amused face. "I leave five hundred dollars. Perhaps you should find someone who cares more to invest in your future."
Gerald flushes red with embarrassment, his hopes dashed by Eleanor's sharp wit even from beyond the grave. Finally, it's Emily's turn.
Mr. Collins: "To my estranged granddaughter, Emily, I wish for nothing but continued distance. I offer to you no possessions nor capital; for my patience with insincerity has long run dry. And you're not allowed to use my last name, you shall bear that of your mother's. You are not a Lys Valenoria."
It's clear Eleanor held a big grudge because Emily didn't visit her once in the hospital. Emily is visibly shocked and upset. The family, on the other hand, is not surprised. Instead, they talk to each other about their new assets and opportunities, ignoring the fact that she received absolutely nothing.
