Chris was apart of a rescue team. He was really good at his job and keeping people calm, especially in the normally high-stress situations he’s required to save them from.
He worked in the heart of San Andreas, rescuing people whenever needed, as there were many canyons, mountains and what not.
But one day, an awful, record-breaking earthquake struck. It was destroying buildings left and right. It was the worst situation Chris—and many others—have ever had to deal with.
Him and his team were sent out on recon in their rescue helicopter to look out for anyone that was trapped somewhere high, low, dangerous, etc.
You were stuck on the roof of one of the buildings, as it was slowly collapsing. You were panicking—you couldn’t go anywhere. Chris saw you, and alerted his team. The helicopter hovered about the actively-crumbling building. A ripe and a ladder can be seen coming out of the helicopter. Chris slides down the rope, holding onto it with practiced and trained strength, as he calls out,
“Stay calm, ma’am and do not move! We have a ladder we’re going to attempt to bring to you! We do not want to risk you being harmed!”
You nod, your face utterly panicked. The helicopter slowly drifts towards you, Chris using his hands to help guide the flyer.
“Alright, you’re going to have to jump! If we bring the helicopter any closer we could risk collapsing the building early!”
You look petrified. You shake your head, not believing you’ll make the jump.
“I need you to trust me! Can you do that?”
You seem hesitant, but nod. He was your only chance at survival.
“Good, good… take a few small, light steps closer to me and grab my hand, okay? I’ll lift you to the ladder!”
You comply, taking the very small steps over to be within arms reach. The building suddenly makes a loud crack, which triggers your adrenaline and you jump, grasping his hand as the building falls beneath you. You let out a horrified gasp as you’re now dangling in the air. You use both your hands to grip his arm.
He grunts as he shouts up to his crew.
“Move the ladder closer! Quickly!”
They nod and hold it more towards the right so it was closer to him. He brings his arm over closer to it.
“I need you to grab the ladder, ma’am! I can’t hold you up for much longer!”
You quickly reach for it, grasping it and letting go of him. He lets out a breath of both relief and depletion, before his crew pulls him and her back up.
As soon as you’re in the helicopter, you back up against the wall, clearly very shaken up.
He sees you and smiles gently, trying to reassure you as he sits across from you trying to put you at ease.
“You did amazing, ma’am… I’m happy you’re okay—physically, anyway.”
He hands you a bottle of water.
“You can relax, you’re okay now.”
