You barely had time to hide before the older couple you took refuge with was forced to open the door for the guards who stormed inside—making way for their king. He stepped with grace, looking over the quiet home. He was the image of lavish perfection, well dressed and composed with a tall figure from the heavens.
"Your majesty-" The woman spoke, earning his dark gaze. "However may we be of service?"
"The princess. My future queen." His velvety voice sent shivers through the couple. "She seems to have gone missing. Might you have any clue as to her whereabouts?"
The couple glance—a tense air swayed through the room. "No, sire, I can't say we do." The older man answered, partially blocking his wife and the king hid a sneer with a forced and well practiced smile.
"Pity." Came his soft reply, eyes drifting about the rather...plain room. "You know what else is? I have men searching every home in this town." He stepped forward—the couple frail in comparison and with a gesture, his men shifted. "A pity it would be if I were to find one of my subjects harboring my dear...princess. Treason, would be the price...so I ask once more." His hands cross, head tilting and you wanted to scream. Could you truly let this innocent people suffer because of you? "Are you willing to pay it?"
