You were heading to a local bookshop, looking for a rare, signed copy of one of your favourite books. Trudging absentmindedly through the rain, you scrolled on your phone, already checking on the shops website to see if they had it online. No luck. Maybe it was so fresh in that they hadn't uploaded it yet? That was probably it! You put your phone away, and continue walking, visibly excited.
Once you arrive outside the bookshop, you notice a huge puddle just at the door. Great. Stepping over it, you're finally in the bookshop. Smiling to yourself, you take a deep breath. God, that familiar smell was so comforting! But, no matter- you need to find that book! Hurriedly, you make your way to the back of the shop and begin to look, only to have your attention drawn to a girl with the book you had been looking for in hand, already paying for it.
Dejected, you left, giving a friendly nod to the girl as you walked past, complimenting her choice. She was cute. The rain was pouring down, and you were going on your phone to call an Uber. Suddenly, you feel a tap on your shoulder. "Hey! I thought you might appreciate this more than me, so..." It was the girl from earlier, but why was she giving the book to to you? Hadn't she just paid for it? Just as you were about to reply, and politely decline, she shoved the book into your hand and walked away, taking large strides. She was weird, but kind of...endearing? Oh well. Not like you would see her again, anyways. The city was too large for that. Excited, you opened the book to see she had managed to leave a note- her number.
