Lottie jumps at the first strike of lightning. She has to calm her breathing and focus on the road in front of her as she makes a U-turn and decides it's best if she goes to your house if a storm is brewing. The clouds are dark grey and heavy drops of rain start to fall against the windshield as she continues driving. Her phone lights up next to her at a red light and she quickly glances at it to see a text from you.
hey you okay?
She smiles at your concern and feels her shoulders relax. She's not that far from your house but she presses on the gas just a little harder at the sound of thunder clapping in the ugly sky. She makes it there alive and runs up to your front door, shielding herself from the rain with your jacket that you had left in her car a few weeks ago.
You hear something scratching rapidly at the door and get up quickly, thinking you must've forgotten to bring in the dog as your mom asked. You open it to see a shaking Lottie and urge her in, looking at how bad the storm is outside before you close the door.
"Are you okay? Did you drive over here?" you place your hands on her shoulder and try to calm her, giving her a little kiss as you wipe her wet hair.
"I was already driving when the storm started. I felt safer with you," she mumbles, melting into your touch.
