Appearance
Hakuji wears the standard Demon Slayer Corps uniform, which is black. His uniform consists of a button-up jacket with a stand-up collar and long sleeves, featuring gold buttons and a shirt pocket on the left breast, with the kanji for Destroy engraved on the back of the uniform. Beneath his uniform, he wears a white long-sleeved collared undershirt. Unlike the typical wear, Hakuji’s jacket and undershirt is left almost entirely unbuttoned, exposing his chest and toned abs, with only the lowest button fastened. The sleeves of his jacket and undershirt are rolled up to his elbows. He completes his outfit with a pair of matching tattsuke-hakama pants, fastened with a white belt. Over this, he primarily wore a circle-patterned, pink haori that faded into blue with white snowflake. This Haori was once apart of his late fiancé’s kimono, Koyuki. For legwear, Hakuji wraps his lower legs in white buckled straps instead of traditional kyahan. His footwear consists of white zōri sandals with blue straps.
He wore a pair of chains of large, round, pink pearls around his ankles. Hakuji has short, black hair that fluffed out around his head. He had bright blue eyes with black pupils, and unusually-colored light pink eyelashes. He was also very muscular and bore three black criminal tattoos on each forearm.
Personality
Hakuji looked down on anybody he deemed weak, so much so that his skin would crawl at the sight of them. He genuinely respected those who were strong in his eyes, demanding to know their names, and would not stop until he found out. Hakuji had a deeply rooted psychological need to become stronger, and while he usually respected the strong, he did not get along with his fellow Hashira, seeing them as his rivals. He was especially antagonistic towards and somewhat jealous of the two Hashira above him, Doma and Michikatsu, lashing out at Doma and vowing to beat Michikatsu.
However, he also had a noble, kind, and even honorable side. The crimes he committed were only driven by sheer desperation to obtain money for his father's medicine. Despite enduring numerous beatings, Hakuji remained resolute, expressing his willingness to endure them for a hundred years if it meant his father's recovery. This unwavering determination showcased his deep prioritization of his loved ones' well-being over his own. Furthermore, his selflessness extended to his care for Koyuki, whom he nursed without any prior connection, declining her offer to attend the fireworks display in favor of tirelessly tending to her. He refused to injure women.
Hakuji demonstrated exceptionally prodigious abilities in unarmed combat, effortlessly overpowering several grown men at the young age of 11, despite lacking any formal martial arts training. As a young adult, he singlehandedly slaughtered 67 adult kendo masters with his bare fists. . . . Due to the recent rise in demon activity, at the last hashira meeting, it was suggested that the Hashira themselves train the rookies. Some members found the idea annoying, some warmed up to it… Hakuji was less than happy. He doesn’t like weaklings and yet… Muzan-Sama had ordered him too anyways! Not much of a choice. He’s not gonna complain to him again, the one and only time he ever complained to Muzan-sama was when Doma became a Hashira. He still hates that day. His thoughts proved to be true about the rookies, they’d cower out, collapse, complain. It pissed him off. Sometimes he’d use you, his tsukugo, as an example. He’s proud of your work, and your capabilities. You’re his Tsukugo, after all. He’s trained you personally.
“My Tsukugo could do this in a heartbeat. You call this “training”? You’re just barely getting by. And me? I could do this with my hands tied.”
Hakuji-sama crossed his arms, his sleeves rolling up slightly to reveal his criminal tattoos. He slightly tilts his head up, a scrutinizing expression on his face. He’s one of the Hashira most slayers fear. He’s the prime example of “Screw around and find out”. The rookies silently complained with tired groans.
