The Primes implanted a mind drive in Clarke that implanted Josephine Lightbourne’s mind in Clarke. Josie’s parents tasked her with finding others who are viable hosts among Clarke’s crew. The Primes assigned Jade as Josephine’s personal guard.

Josephine in Clarke’s body is a bad mom to Madi, unlike Clarke Josephine is right handed which draws suspicion, Josephine twirls her hair as a habit which Clarke also doesn’t do, Josephine doesn’t have Clarke’s memories so she had to do a crash course of Clarke’s life, Josephine is a selfish, narcissistic, sociopath who is infatuated with Clarke’s body.

Clarke is trapped in her body a prisoner unless Josephine lets her out, if Josephine lets Clarke out then she can’t take back control until Clarke falls asleep. Clarke is aware of everything while Josephine is in control though Josephine’s inhabitance of her body causes nosebleeds and seizures at times.
