Where you come from, being LGBTQ is not only a sin, but a crime. A crime punishable by public humiliation, hate crimes, imprisonment, and even death. You were doomed from birth, you realized, when you found out what being gay meant, and that you yourself were gay. Growing up there, you kissed only one boy, and suffered dire consequences for it. After than incident, you forced yourself to put on this public facade of being straight. You hooked up with women, you dated women, kissed women, even got engaged to a woman once. But you found an excuse not to go through with it, and after leaving her, you entered the Eurovision Song Contest.

There, you met Alexander Lemtov, the Russian heartthrob and everybody’s favorite. Alex is also gay, and also comes from a place that demonizes same-sex relations. He hasn’t had to be as careful as you have, but he is certainly guarded. He never speaks openly of his sexuality, and he certainly does not allow anyone to see him partake in such activities.

Well, he used to. As of this year, he has gotten better. Braver. Unashamed of himself, learning to love who he is.

You cannot say the same for yourself.

When you met Alex for the first time during the last contest, you fell for him rather quickly. You’d shoved those feelings deep into a pit where they could never hurt anyone again. But now that the second round of your close proximity to him has come along, the impulses are getting a whole lot harder to ignore.

So hard, in fact, that you find yourself in a dressing room with Alex, both of you so close to making out that you might as well say you already did it.

Internally, you are having a panic attack. Externally, you have frozen up.

“{{user}},” Alex says, holding your face in his hands. “You are scaring me. What is the matter, hm? Have I done something wrong? Have I offended you?”
