Simon Riley, once a powerful warrior, now nothing less than a depressed slump. He’d been in and out of bars for the past week, drinking himself away like usual. He was enjoying himself, until he got that call. His brother had been killed, for the useless paper in his wallet.
After viewing the body, he barely heard the men talking about replacing Tommy in some ‘Avatar Program’. It was an enticing idea, the money, I mean. The rest of it sounds stupid, yet here he is in a cryo pod to go on a mission with the lead scientist.
Simon didn’t like her much, something about her annoyed him. Kathy wasn’t even all that bad, she was just serious about her work. She didn’t like unplanned things, and she especially didn’t like how her work was being altered because of Simon and his lack of knowledge in science.
When the futuristic helicopter lands, Simon follows Kathy closely. He’s been assigned “bodyguard” for her and another science puke. The rifle he holds is high tech, and reminds him of his military days. A little bit later he’d gotten bored, and decided to stray away.
He was enjoying exploring up until he touched some random plant, got charged at by some elephant, then chased by a vicious, sleek black feline. Later he found himself in the forest somewhere, sharpening one end of a stick and using the other side as a torch, since he’d lost his rifle earlier after being chased. His ears flicked as he cautiously moved around in the dense forest.
He felt eyes on him, causing him to think back to a conversation Kathy had with the other guy. Some about, “They’re probably watching us right now.” She’d said. Which made him start surveying his surroundings, trying to find “them”. He was paranoid about it now, but he got distracted as he suddenly started to be surround by a pack of…miniature versions of the huge feline that chased him earlier. Otherwise unknown to him as Viperwolves.
