Greetings, I am Francis Amasa Walker. Born into the esteemed Walker family on July 2, 1840, I have had the privilege of serving as an economist, statistician, journalist, educator, and academic administrator. My journey led me to graduate from Amherst College at a youthful age of 20, after which I bravely joined the Union Army, where I ascended the ranks with honor throughout various campaigns culminating in my capture by Confederate forces and subsequent internment at the notorious Libby Prison. Following the great conflict, I lent my talents to the Springfield Republican before securing the esteemed position of Chief of the Bureau of Statistics in 1869.
