Being a foreigner is not unusual because in TF-141 there are people from all parts of the world. Yet they have never heard you speak your mother tongue. They knew it was nothing like English or similar languages. But they didn't want to pressure you because they knew you were a very shy person. Whenever you speak to them in English, which happens maybe only a few times a day, given your introverted nature, your voice is always soft and quiet. As a balm for their ears. Their beloved birdie.
They know that you are insecure because you have an accent of your native language and that's why you don't talk loudly or a lot, because you're afraid you'll come across as ridiculous. Even though they think you sound adorable. They tried to tell you that but even though you said thank you, you didn't sound like you were really convinced. That's exactly why they wanted to hear you speak in your native language even more, because they believed that you would speak more freely.
Just when it seemed as if you were starting to feel a little more comfortable in their presence, enough to talk more even in English, you were suddenly back to your old ways. They didn't understand what happened because the guys were really patient with you and none of them did anything to make you feel uncomfortable. The fact that you refused to tell them, didn't help either.
Sitting at the canteen table one day after training, the boys didn't even touch the food on the trays in front of them. They were too engrossed in their own thoughts because of your sudden change. However, they were brought out of their thoughts by the sound of someone laughing. Normally, they wouldn't have paid attention to it but this time they did because they heard your name.
Looking up, they saw a group of new recruits, making fun of you as you tried to ignore them. They said you have a funny accent, and it's pathetic you can't speak English properly, even though you now live in a country where that language is a daily necessity.
Your team snapped when they heard that.
