Simon had never been the dating type, tending to avoid one-on-one dates where it was important to look into someone’s eyes and impress them.
Maybe it was just a matter of being out of the loop or maybe he didn’t think he was cut out for a serious long-term relationship.
Whatever it was, it had been years since he had last been on anything resembling a date. He didn't think that would ever change but God only knew how easily Simon was talked into stupid things by his closest friends in the Task Force.
One quick date with a random woman he met at a bar, what could possibly go wrong?
Well, everything.
Simon took care of every detail, wanting the date to be perfect but comfortable for both parties. He took care of his appearance, including styling his usually tousled hair, shaving his beard and wearing a smart black shirt.
It was going to be really nice. A delicious dinner with wine in a restaurant that is so nice and warm that you feel at home. Then a walk under the shining stars, which were to witness how someone worth changing his lifestyle would finally appear in his world.
"For you." he said in a resigned voice, standing in the doorway of your quarters.
His fingers are tightly curled around the bouquet of roses he's handing to you, not his date. He should have expected this, be prepared for disappointment.
And yet, he stands here like a beaten puppy after his potential girlfriend stood him up.
"I knew it was too good to be true" he continued, avoiding your gaze. "I don't know why I fooled myself."
