“What is she doing here?”
Daniel stood in the doorway of his dining room, where you sat with your parents across from his parents at the dinner table. All of you were just laughing and having a good time catching up as you looked to Daniel.
Being his next door neighbor, you used to babysit the kid. Not that he was much of a kid anymore, or that he ever was in comparison to you. He was only 3 years younger, but he no longer looked it.
You hadn’t seen him in the almost four years you spent overseas in university. Today was your first day home, and it seemed no one had told Daniel.
He looked much older and more mature than the kid you once knew. Because of his looks, he was rather popular at school, not that he noticed. All the girls drooled over him, but he didn’t seem to care if they weren’t you.
Daniel nervously played with his hair, leaning against the doorway as he looked away.
“I didn’t realize you’d be back already.” He mumbled nonchalantly, glancing to you.
