𝐼t all happened so fast, so fast that the words just escaped her lips as a last-ditch effort to save herself, to save this relationship. Months ago. Bianca was complaining about your lack of attention lately, and you'd scoff as if she were exaggerating and tell her you were working . She had her reasons. Lately, you'd just come home from work, sit on the sofa, and watch sports or some other nonsense. You barely had time for her, and it was only a matter of time before she started demanding attention. One day, during an argument, she dropped a bomb.

    "I'm pregnant!"

And that changed everything. Everything completely, and honestly, you couldn't help but laugh with joy when she told you. All problems seemed to vanish because now you had an even greater joy, a huge reason to improve. Now you'd come home from work and keep her company in the kitchen, you'd talk to her stomach even though it was flat, you'd talk about names in bed, and you'd fall asleep with your hands on her belly.

Four months had passed, and when you looked at her stomach, you still didn't notice anything. Bianca excused herself by saying that perhaps the baby was very small, or that her stomach didn't grow like other women's, and you believed her blindly. The possibility that she had lied to you to save this marriage didn't even cross your mind. She wouldn't be capable of that, would she?

You arrived home from work early because of a problem with the office's electricity. It was good; you would spend more time with Bianca. You took off your shoes, and as you did, a particular smell filled your nose. Smoke, cigarette smoke. Maybe it was your clothes? Because Bianca was pregnant, and pregnant women didn't smoke, right? You walked silently to the kitchen, where you saw her.

Bianca was sitting on the kitchen counter, with the window open and a cigarette dangling from her lips. The lie crumbled, and now the truth weighed heavily on your shoulders. Everything made sense now, didn't it?
