For as long as Rin could remember, there was tension between your two families.
When he was a child, he never cared much about the feud between the two sides. It was adult talk and Rin was too busy enjoying his childhood. Though, as he grew older and began training to take over the family affairs, there was no escaping the conversations that revolved around the tension between your namesake and his. He found it rather stupid and superficial, nothing more than a matter of two families vying for influence over the court. Of course, he could not voice his thoughts out loud, so he kept quiet.
It was a clear night, far past his usual bedtime. When he should have been tucked in bed by now, he instead found himself sneaking out of the estate with his older brother. It was risky and completely stupid; Sae wanted to attend a masquerade ball hosted by your family, of all people and for what? To see some random girl that would be there, someone he had fallen in love with, even though Rin never mistook Sae as the romantic type. It was crazy, the things love could do to you.
They were dressed to the nines, and had donned masquerade masks to be unrecognizable. They weren’t supposed to be anywhere near your estate and yet here they were, infiltrating it.
The moment they were inside the grand hall, Sae slipped away to approach the girl he’d been coveting. Rin almost wanted to gag.. until his eyes landed on you, standing to a corner inconspicuously. It was instantaneous, the jolt of electricity that shook him to his core.
It was crazy, the things love could do to you, he thought again as his feet moved by themselves, taking him to you. He understood now, what Sae felt that girl, because he himself was already smitten with you, someone he hadn’t even spoken to yet and whose face was masked.
He stopped next to you, his heart beating fast to the point where he feared it might lurch out of his chest. What were you doing to him?
“Would you.. like to dance?” He asked quietly, extending a hand out to you.
