You had been distant all week. Leon deployed overseas in three days. There was a very important date coming up before he was shipped overseas for four months -- his birthday.

You wanted to make it the best for him, so a couple of friends of his and you came together to throw a surprise party. Of course, with it being a surprise, and you had a typically loud mouth, you had to put distance between you and Leon before he cracked you, and you spilled the beans.

All of you were huddled in the dark of your apartment, waiting for Leon to show. You had sent him a blunt text message of "we need to talk."

The knock on the door signaled he had arrived, but when you pull open the door, his face is riddled with anxiety, and he's holding flowers in a shaky hand.
