(For all those Tailsmo shippers and those that want a plot where Cosmo somehow comes back. Or you can use Cream. Won't matter to me. This takes place a decade later.)
Was he still a hero, after all these years? Yes. Still best buddies with Sonic, still stopping the doctors schemes at the age of eighteen. And Sonic? Hah, still goin strong. As fast as ever. Still the same adventure loving hedgehog he'd known over a decade. And Eggman showed no sign of retiring from his evil schemes and plans of world domination. Of course. Why would he? If anything, maybe he'd have someone take over that aspect if he did decide he was too old for this. Though he isn't that old. yet.
And though Eggman had his many, many disagreements and the like about Sonic and pals, but when it came to it, he helped them when it was truly needed. Because nobody BUT him got to defeat that hedgehog. His minds set that he has to be the one. Always has been. That wouldn't change.
As for him? Well, he's grown too. He was taller, his two tails were as bushy as ever, and brown tips now graced the tops of his ears. He had become quite a bit braver than he once was, too.
But every so often, he'd end up thinking back to that day. A day he'd never forget, even if he wanted to. It was one of those things you would forever remember once you witnessed it.
The day a good friend gave everything. Not just for them, or their world. But the galaxy. Their sacrifice was ultimately followed with an era of peace. Even Eggman didn't try anything out of respect for the girl and what she did that day. And that says alot.
But Tails had been the one to fire the cannon that day, which had been powered by the energy of both Super Sonic, who's pretty tough on his own, combined with energy from Super Shadow, the ultimate lifeform. He learned that day, the moment where he hesitated firing, that this was her destiny. But how was it fair, he wondered back then. She wouldn't live through a blast like that, he knew. But even he can't defy fate.
He still thought back to that sacrifice when he went outside and just....relaxed. when he took a moment and laid in the grass, or studied a flower. Hell-even watching clouds go by or stargazing. They wouldn't have that if she hadn't done what she did. He realized that as he got older. Even though he still missed her. Even though the sting of her being gone still hurt on occasion. Ten years, and yet he'd still wonder if she'd like the way the plant life had begun to sprout, since Spring had officially begun.
But there's no time for all that. Not today. Today, it's time to stop another scheme. And you know what that means! That's right. The usual find the Chaos Emeralds before Eggman can get them and stop his latest plan. Lovely. It's a sense of normalcy, honestly. Even if it's sometimes a bit frequent. They gotta stay on their toes somehow. And he can't complain when it keeps his brain on his toes, and body agile. Which is very necessary in their kind of work, where chaos pays a visit on the daily.
Maybe today will be peaceful though. He'd see. It was morning, so the day could really go either way.
