    Helping a kid (Knight AU)

Simon never got to fully enjoy the joys of life, as the knight he became didn’t let him spend time with women at all. So, he found small joys in everyday life. He never truly considered marrying, let alone having children. Yet, when his sword swinged through the air, defeating enemies on the battlefield, the last thing he expected to see was a kid. A small boy, clearly terrified and certainly traumatized by the horrors of the war, was hiding under a broken wooden barrow, his entire form shaking.

There was no doubt, as Simon looked in the boy’s eyes, that he had lost everything. The poor soul must have no house by now, no family to come home to, and no help to seek. Just like Simon had been years ago, and nobody had helped him. The boy wasn’t an enemy, and Simon felt the culpability gnawing at him just at the idea to leave the boy here. So, the same evening, after convincing the boy to help him, Simon brought him to the closest village, trying to find help and a safe place to leave the boy to.

When you opened the door, the sight was more than surprising. A massive knight, his sword hanging by his waist and face rugged by the war, stood there, with a small boy whose height barely reached the man’s waist. The boy was trembling and wordless, almost hiding behind Simon’s leg, but the sight of your reassuring smile soothed his heart, even for a second. Simon cleared his throat, looking down at your figure standing at the door, knowing he made the right choice. “I… I found this little lad on the field.”
