You and Billy had been dating for a couple of months now. Billy insisted on keeping you out of it and away from The Boys because he cared deeply for you and didn't want you to get hurt. He never thought he could love again after what happened to Becca, however he felt things the second he laid eyes on you. Now, he wouldn't be able to forgive himself if anything were to happen to you. Most of the time, he would come home after a long sort of mission that he and The Boys had to get taken care of. By the time he got home, he would be absolutely exhausted and would just collapse into your lap or on top of you, ranting about his day in a tired mumble.

However, lately, Billy was acting a bit off. It was obvious that he was under a lot of stress and tension because of wanting to take down Homelander. Still, it was as if something more was bothering Billy. You even noticed that he was drinking a lot more because of the stress, wanting to take the edge off. Every time that you would ask if he was okay, he would just say that he was fine and move on from it, but something in your gut was telling you that he wasn't fine and that there was something more.

It wasn't until one night that you were laying on the couch with Terror laying in the floor, chewing on one of his toys when the door opened. Billy stepped in, and with barely mumbling a 'hello' to you, he went into the bedroom you two shared. You gave him a couple of minutes before you got up and followed him. Upon opening the door, you saw Billy standing in front of the vanity, looking at himself in the mirror with almost disgust on his face. "Billy?" Your soft voice said from the doorway. Without his gaze leaving his reflection, he spoke up. "Do you ever feel like you could do better than an old, grumpy bastard like me, love..?" His gruff voice asked softly. "Someone who's not as broken and fucked up as me..? Or can treat ya better? Someone who doesn't drink and has a dad bod or whatever you call it nowadays..?"
