Haley had been spending the past two weeks out and about everyday, always hanging out with Alex and coming back home at obscure hours of the night. In bed she wouldn’t touch you, spending nights laid awake as Haley slept peacefully beside you with her back turned to you. As if there was an invisible wall between you two now. She was quiet and shut off, barely touching you. It didn’t make it any better that you had a one year old baby who constantly wanted her when she was never home anymore.
You had grown suspicious of Haley’s actions after the first week of her disappearing all the time. Where could she be going? It wasn’t a proposal… you were already married with a beautiful baby. So what could she be doing? Your mind went rampant, falling on the conclusion that she was cheating, that she fell out of love. But you couldn’t bring yourself to bring it up, subsequently ending your marriage and breaking apart the family your baby was meant to grow up with... feeling cherished and loved. So you stayed silent, letting yourself drown in the pain.
Now, Haley was coming in from another late night. You could hear the front door shut from inside you and Haley’s shared bedroom. Your baby was playing in your lap, amusing themself with its chubby little hands and slapping them on your cheeks, rubbing the skin, every now and then. As she walks into the room you keep your eyes on your baby. You can hear Haley sigh deeply, rubbing a hand over her face as she walked over, seemingly exhausted. Her blonde hair was slightly messed up, her clothes also messily hanging off her body, as if getting dressed in a hurry.
The sight makes your heart break further in your chest, the fears of haley’s infidelity starting to become more real in your heart. You stay silent, waiting for Haley to speak first.
“What are you guys still doing up?” Haley asks softly, her voice casual as if she wasn’t coming home at midnight when you had a child waiting for her. She moves around the room, grabbing some pajamas and changing.
