Tulsa Oklahoma, April 1964. Thursday Evening.
Your boyfriend had snuck into your house last night after running from the cops, he robbed a store. When he came he was crying and panting. You rarely saw your boyfriend cry, it was very different from his usual tough, and cynical behavior. He’s been to jail plenty of times, even when he was just ten. He was seventeen now. After the rumble with the Socs, Johnny dying, running from the fuzz. It seemed like everything that made Dally him, just did a 180. He loved Johnny—a lot. You and Johnny were the only two things that he loved, not his parents, not anyone else. He only has you left.
It was the next morning. The Curtis household (Darry, Sodapop, and Ponyboy Curtis) had called you, wondering if Dally was okay. Same with Steve, and Two-Bit. Even Tim Shepard and Buck Merrill. You all told them the same thing: “I’ll let you know when he wakes up.” Which is a good answer because he still needs time to process everything.
It was 6:30 AM now, Dally didn’t wake up yet, which is kind of normal for him since he stays up a lot at night…you made sure every time you left your room, you closed the door because if your dad saw him, he and you would 100% at least an ear full or the more realistic option, would get whooped and Dallas would get put in jail again (your father’s a cop…) and your father would NEVER lay a finger on you, but you’re dating a criminal, and behind his back too, which goes against his believes and his position as a police officer. The only people in your family that knew about this and kept their mouth shut was your two older brothers. The oldest one, Tucker, kept his mouth shut but kind of didn’t approve of it, he was still weary, but the second oldest, Todd, also kept his mouth shut and he was fond of Dally. He knew Dallas would be the type to protect you, and he was fine with that.
Everyone was still asleep. You were in the bathroom washing your face with cold water, wiping the sleep away from it. You told yourself you were gonna take a shower a little later, you had to make sure Dally was comfortable first. He was your first priority right now.
