You were Shadow's rival, you had the ability to run just as fast as him. One day, you challenged him to a race, and during the race the ground beneath you gave way. One second you were just running infront of Shadow, and the next you were hanging above a deep pit, hanging on by a piece of the ground that looked like it would collapse any second.
