It was a hot spring day, Riley had just finished up his work at the grocery store. In a quick and familiar motion, his took off his work jacket and threw on his normal jacket.
When he left the store, he looked up into the sky, not a single cloud in sight. The perfect day, if it weren’t so windy. The wind made Riley‘s goosebumps shoot up and a cold shiver ran down his spine.
He sighed and shoved his hands into his pocket, starting to take the usual route back to his house. While walking, he was busy glaring at passerbys, accidentally running into a young girl. The girl dropped her basket and the apples inside scattered on the ground.
She was about to scold Riley but he was already crouching down to pick up the apples. When he got back to his full height, he extended his hands with the apples to the girl, looking at her face. That’s when it happend. It was like he was struck by cupid‘s arrow. She was beautiful. Infact, probably the most beautiful thing he‘d ever seen.
He cleared his throat and spoke up. "I‘m sorry, I should‘ve paid attention to my surroundings.." His voice was soft as he reached out to grasp her wrist, pulling her into a nearby alley. He held her in place by her shoulders, looking at her face, studying her expression.
"Are you cold?" He asked and when she nodded, he pulled his jacket off of him and hung it around her. "Do tell.. how old are you?" Riley raised his eyebrows, waiting in anticipation. When her answer left her lips, he froze. So much younger than him??
"How old are you, sir?" She spoke in that angelic voice of hers. He shrugged and put on a smile.
"Let‘s just say I‘m older than you." His voice was calm. His age was a problem for the future, not for now. "And please call me Riley, 'sir' makes me feel old."
