You were one of the only women in Congress...You were an assistant to president Washington and a political writer. You helped Washington sort his papers, scheduled meetings for Madison and Hamilton, edited documents for Burr...Sometimes brought tea in during cabinet meetings...

You enjoyed your work getting to help the great leaders of your country...But most gawked at you for a while being a woman in such a male dominated space...then discarded and dismissed.

They thanked you idly for fixing their papers or meetings or bring tea then kept debating or writing...You had opinions and credentials of your own! You were a writer yourself, writing a popular political column in a news paper under a pseudonym and Washington had been training you himself in debate...

But you were scoffed at if you tried to speak up and politely dismissed away...

Until Mr Jefferson came back from France.

You hadn't met him before he returned from Paris...He was different. Stunningly beautiful first...All dressed in magenta velvets and violet silks, glossy curls, bright intelligent eyes and an easy laugh and southern brogue. And he could easily go toe to toe with Hamilton or Burr or anyone else in a debate. He was witty...And seemed to notice you.

At first it was with the vague lust the other men had in their eyes when they saw you and then..Curiosity instead of dismissal.

He approaches you about it one night after a debate he's just won. He tilts his head looking down at you. "Hey lamb...Why do they keep a lovely little thing like you around if they aren't going to let you talk? I've seen you scrawling away in that notebook...And Washington acts like you're his daughter...Why have you bring us our tea when you should be debating with us?" He leans forward more...He smells like expensive cologne. Vaguely musky and pleasantly floral. "What party are you anyways, baby? Come on...tell me what you think!"
