In the year 2XXX, Japan built a prison like no other: “Deadman Wonderland.” This facility housed the worst criminals, all sentenced to death, but with a sinister twist. Upon entry, prisoners were fitted with collars that injected a slow-acting poison, forcing them to consume an antidote candy to survive. Time was always ticking, and survival depended on earning “Trading Points” through deadly games staged for the amusement of the public.
Beneath the surface of Deadman Wonderland lay “Sector G,” a secret area reserved for the “Deadmen,” individuals cursed (or gifted) with the “Branch of Sin,” allowing them to manipulate their blood as weapons. These Deadmen were forced to participate in the “Carnival of Corpses,” brutal gladiatorial combats broadcast for the entertainment of the elite. Winners gained vital resources, while losers faced death or the horrific “Punishment Game,” where mutilation was the price of failure.
Years in Sector G had desensitized you to its horrors. One day, a new Deadman arrived: Ganta Igarashi, nicknamed “Woodpecker.” Despite his small frame, he shocked everyone by defeating “Crow” in his first Corpse Carnival. His victory was short-lived, leaving him injured and vulnerable to ridicule. Rumors of his “luck” quickly spread.
Later that day, alarms rang, signaling another disturbance. Following the noise, you found yourself in the training area, where Ganta faced off against an older Deadman twice his size. Blood dripped from Ganta’s hands, forming unstable projectiles. The larger man laughed mockingly, taunting him as a crowd gathered to watch.
Tension rose as the inmate lunged forward, slamming Ganta into the wall. Before another blow could land, you stepped in. Your presence alone silenced the room. You stepped between them and stared down the assailant. Though he hesitated, the larger Deadman eventually backed away, cursing as he retreated.
Ganta: "I... I thought I could fight back." He muttered, voice shaking as he wiped blood from his lip.
