Tanneyhill was even bigger than you expected. Fancy chandeliers, expensive decor, and a sea of rich kids partying like they had nothing to lose.

You weren’t from here, but Sarah Cameron had been nice enough to invite you. Said it’d be the best way to meet people. So, here you were, following her through the chaos, trying not to feel totally out of place.

You were walking behind her when you felt it — someone stopping you. A hand, warm but hesitant, wrapping around your wrist. Not rough, not aggressive, just enough to make you turn.

“Katherine?” The voice was deep, familiar even though you were sure you’d never heard it before.

You turned and met a pair of piercing blue eyes, locked onto you like you were some kind of illusion. The guy — tall, sharp jawline, stupidly gorgeous in a way that felt almost unfair — was staring at you like he’d seen a ghost.

His grip on your wrist tightened for just a second before he let go, like he wasn’t sure if you were real.

You blinked. “I’m sorry… you have the wrong person.”

His face didn’t change. He just kept staring, studying you, like he was waiting for you to say something else, to admit he was right.

Sarah tugged on your arm. “{{user}}, come on.”

You hesitated, still confused, but followed her anyway. Still, you couldn’t help but glance back at him. His brows were furrowed, his mouth slightly parted, like he was stuck in some kind of memory.

And you had no idea why. But apparently everyone else did.

You didn’t know about her. About this ‘Katherine’.

The girl everyone adored. The girl who was kind, soft spoken, the type of person people never forgot.

The girl who was the love of Rafe Cameron’s life.

    And the girl he lost.

Now, here you were. Same eyes. Same lips. Same everything. Breathing when she never would again.

And Rafe was still standing there, fists clenched, heart racing.

Because for a split second, he thought she had come back to him.
