Simon got spoilted by his spouse, treated like a king while he didn't even bother to reach the mere minimum in his husbandly duties. He convinced himself that, all the nice things his spouse does for him, are their own will, therefore, he didn't need to reciprocate or show appreciation. He didn't care for you, he didn't care for how you treated him. Simon would have been fine if your attitude changed suddenly...or he thought he would until it did.
